Abstract

This paper assesses the reliability performance of Etete and GRA 33kV feeders in Benin transmission station located in Benin City, Nigeria. The daily outages data of the feeders between November 2016 and October 2018 were collected and used to compute the monthly and yearly reliability indices for the feeders with the system reliability impact data on statistical information also classified as unscheduled (forced) outages. The data collected were analysed using Microsoft Excel to estimate the reliability of the injection substation. The data were used to compute and analyse the reliability indices with respect to customer orientation indices: System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI), System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI) and Average Service Availability Index (ASAI); for a period of 24 months. The results obtained from the analyses of the 33-kV feeders show that within the period of investigation, the GRA feeder was more reliable with an average of 83.4% as against 69.9% for the Etete feeder; although the record of the availabilities of the two feeders observed from analysis of the data was lower than the IEEE standard of the ASAI, which is 0.99989. Yearly reliability indices tables were thus developed to show the Forced outage hours (FOH), failure rate, Mean time between failures (MTBF), Mean time to repair (MTTR), reliability and the system’s availability. These results were analysed and discussed.
