Abstract

The overall aim of this paper is the development of a solar cooker with split mirror collectors. The fabrication of the parabolic solar cooker was achieved using mild steel, plywood and reflecting mirrors. These materials having suitable properties were shaped precisely and assembled. The mirrors with the aid of top bond gum were held in parabolic profile mounted on a basement of plywood. This constitutes the reflecting surface of the solar cooker, which is tilted by profile hanger. A pot frame carrying a pot raiser and a pot holder was fixed to the same basement to hold the pot in the focal point of the reflected rays from the parabolic shaped mirrors. The analysis of result and the performance evaluation tests showed that the cooking device raised the temperature of two litres of water from 28˚C to 99.8˚C in 6hours.
